The City Hall of Lagoa Santa inaugurates on this Thursday, 27/03 at 5 p.m, the new 24 hours Emergency Medical Service Centre (PAM) that will operate at Conde Dolabela Street, 1.635 at Várzea district. Built with resources originated from the city, the new PAM will be maintained in partnership with the government of the state. “The mission of the Emergency Medical Service Centre is to offer compassionate, free and universal care to the population”, explains the mayor Dr. Fernando Pereira.

The PAM 24H Will have an emergency room, observation rooms, digital X-Ray functioning nonstop; an exam lab, stitching room, plaster room and proper clinics for a medical attention with comfort, quality and accuracy.

The New PAM

The Health Secretary, Fabiano Moreira, highlights some of the services that the New Emergency Medical Service Centre will offer to the population: “With this inauguration, the city hall will offer to the population the exclusive 24h X-Ray with digital equipments, one of the most modern ones in the market. Another thing that should be said is that we now have orthopedists full time.”

The PAM will have a permanent team of GPS, pediatricians, orthopedists, nurses, nursing technicians, administrative employees and securities. The initial expectation for the new health unit is of 2.400 medical services every month, almost double of what is actually done at Santa Casa. The unit was built to receive up to 4.000 people every month.

“The health unit built by the city hall at Várzea has a similar structure of Santa Casa, when it was opened in 2001, but without surgery room and nursery, although it has a high quality structure classified as size II” says the on-duty and future clinical director of PAM, the general practitioner, Dr. Alexis Nicolai.

Reception

The new 24h Medical Service Centre is an urgency and emergency service classified by the Unified Health System (SUS) as one of short-stay of patients. The institution will work following the international protocol of “Manchester” of risk classification, with priority in attending the worst cases when life is at risk.

The patients will be sent to PAM by the health units during its daily work period. After its closing and on weekends, the patients can go straight to PAM. The initial orientation of the Secretariat of Health is that the patients should keep going to the closest health unit to their homes, that, if needed, will send them to PAM, which will attend them in a faster way.

In a case when the patient needs to stay hospitalized for longer periods of time, they will be registered by the New PAM team in the room central of SUS Fácil System, with a request of priority transfer to the Santa Casa of Lagoa Santa. When the institution is not able to receive the patient – in worse cases or because of the lack of free rooms – “we will transfer the patient, in our ambulance, to another hospital of the region that has vacancies, always followed by trained professionals”, explains the municipal secretary of Health.
