The Integrated Open University of Minas Gerais (UAITEC) in Lagoa Santa was inaugurated on the last Friday, 21/03, and was attended by municipal and state authorities and the students of the institution. The distance learning unit is working at Tristão Mariano Street, 145, in the Várzea district, at the same place of the former CVT, which was transformed in UAITEC.


The mayor of Lagoa Santa, Dr. Fernando Pereira, highlighted the importance of the inauguration. “Our city is developing, and it’s necessary to give conditions for the people to get ready for this moment”, He said. UAITEC is a free program, conceived by the State Secretary of Science, Technology and Higher Education of Minas’ Government. The goal is to offer professional training through a network of distance learning complexes.
The State Secretary of Science, Technology and Higher Education of Minas, Nárcio Rodrigues, celebrated the partnership with the mayor Dr. Fernando and emphasized that Lagoa Santa has a proper environment for citizenship and learning. During the event, the painter, sculptor, potter and designer, Leda Gontijo, was honored because of her career.
Born in Juiz de Fora, she chose to live in Lagoa Santa and always realizes artistic and cultural activities in the city. Leda highlighted the satisfaction at the tribute and the opening of UAITEC.


Structure


Between the courses that are already under way and the ones that are expected for Lagoa Santa’s unit, are the courses of languages, computing, technical, degree, graduating, MBA, mastering and PhD.
The space is composed by video conferencing and digital inclusion rooms, virtual laboratory, data processing centre, and a centre of support to the entrepreneur of innovation. The planned structure offers accessibility to disabled people.
